When I indicate left the main beam is also activated which is a bit of a nuisance at night - common fault with an easy fix? New stalk unit perhaps?

It's either the stalk or wiring, does the stalk feel 'loose'?

The stalk connects to the main wiring loom via multiplug,

disconnect the multiplug and active he lights from the plug using a test light, if the same thing happens then you have a wiring issue if it all works normally then its the stalk.

Stalks (either side) are cheap enough (don't bother buying new) from ebay or e30zone - usually about £6 to £10 quid.

When my indicators packed up I simply bought second hand and had them changed pretty quickly.

I suspect the stalk - if I hold it down or wiggle it I can sometimes overcome the problem - signed up to E30 Zone, thanks for the pointer.
