I see your points, but you are not driving those cars. You are driving a computer representation of reality. That's where I don't get it you see. How is it as much fun to drive in a game as in real life (oh hang on, the way things are going these days it may be more fun in a game).
I know I will never get to own/drive a vast number of cars which are in these games, but then, ah well, such is life.

You could say that about any computer game, and simulations are getting more realistic by the minute.Just look at how well the GT Academy winners can drive. For some of them the only "fast" driving experience they had prior to hitting the real tarmac was in a computer game.

You know what, he's RIGHT!I know I will never get to own/drive a vast number of cars which are in these games, but then, ah well, such is life.
-throwa copy of GTA4 in the bin and goes off to run down some pedestrians, kill some drug lords, and hang out with a self-absorbed, steroid-pumping douchebag, and my Eastern European cousin-

That's a completely different discussion, isn't it?Basically, if we are car enthusiasts then we like real cars!??!? Perhaps I am being constrained by memories of Grand Turismo where you press a button for the throttle etc.. Perhaps if you are playing with a pedal and steering wheel set-up in a racing car seat it's a whole lot better.. But still..
With COD and say Aliens and what not I shall never get the chance to kill aliens or be in the SAS etc.. so it is always going to be a complete fantasy and something I know which is not attainable. But I do get to drive.... Ok, I don't get to drive a Veyron or whatever, but still...
Perhaps I am not making sense because my view has little logic !

People who like golf can play golf games, people who like football can play football games, people who like cars can play racing games and people who like first person shooters, can ceremoniously burn copies of Daikatana. It's just entertainment. No different to me than watching a film, collecting models or playing scalextric etc etc.
As mentioned, it's nice to just jump onto a track with your mates at any time of the day or night and have a chat as you mess about. The control method doesn't really matter. It can also be very competitive with milliseconds splitting first and second places etc, so you get a great sense of achievement if your newly painted and upgraded range rover or classic alfa romps home first. It's just an advanced and socially interactive version of toy cars, I guess.
And after all, even if I did own a veyron or a 950 bhp MX5, I wouldn't treat them the way they get treated in games

Doesn't the OP play a lot of MW2? I'm sure there is an indepth discussion that could be had about that and the psychology behind that.
Yes, I've already addressed that above. I just cannot understand the logic in people who love cars playing at driving. But as I have already said, it could simply be that I have no logic in this..
