D reg Porsche 944 2.5L, 170K mileage,some history, £3295
Good deal or avoid, my head says no, but!!! it looks stunning.
I have never owned a Porsche 944, what should I be looking for, I don't really want to spend more than £5K, will I get anything reasonable for this sort of figure?, and if so which model/mileage should i go for?.
I would appreciate any advice.

Looks a little pricey to me for that sort of mileage, but what overall condition is it in? A high mileage car in good, well serviced condition is going to be more reliable than one which may have a lower mileage but has been thrashed. I'd have thought for £5k you could get a fairly good S2 or early Turbo - I bought my '91 S2 just over 18 months ago with 86k miles for £6.5k
Whatever you decide, you should get it looked at by a specialist and if there is any doubt about age/mileage on the cam belt then get it changed before you do anything else. They are very reliable cars generally if they have been looked after and serviced properly.

Way too pricey, I guess that is at a dealer? high miler s2's are in that sort of price range for private sales. £2k would be better, at £1500 if its nice & clean its a bargain.
They are great little wagons but remember they are getting on a bit & you will probabally have to spend out a few squid on bits & bobs.
If £5k is your absoulue tops, prob best to stick with a Lux, as although you could indeed pick up an s2 or even a Turbo at that level, unless you are very careful & inspect the car very well the bits it may need could take you well over that price. (i.e. common failings esp at high miles are wishbones, torque tube bearings, gearbox, engine mounts, cam chain tensioner)
