Internet connection problem
Discussion
I am having trouble getting on the internet. I am currently using my mobile dongle because I cannot connect to my home broadband.
I bought a MacBook yesterday and cannot get it to connect. I did not do anything to my wireless router settings but I cannot get online. My company Windows laptop cannot connect either.
My router is a BT Voyager which I have had for some time. I can see it using 'Airport' but the diagnostic checks say there is no internet connection.
I have logged onto the router by entering the IP address which brings up a BT Voyager web page where I can tweak the settings. I have checked my details are entered correctly. I have also tried resetting the router.
When I select 'Run Diagnostic Tests' I get the following:
Test the connection to your local network
Test your Ethernet Connection: PASS
Test your Wireless Connection: PASS
Test the connection to your ADSL service provider
Test ADSL Synchronization: PASS
Test ATM OAM F5 segment ping: PASS
Test ATM OAM F5 end-to-end ping: PASS
Test ATM OAM F4 segment ping: FAIL
Test ATM OAM F4 end-to-end ping: FAIL
Test the connection to your Internet service provider
Test PPP server connection: PASS
Test authentication with ISP: PASS
Test the assigned IP address: PASS
Ping default gateway: PASS
Ping primary Domain Name Server: PASS
I have rang my ISP who seem to think there is no problem their end but say they do not support the BT Voyager.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Define "cannot connect" - do you mean that neither of your machines get an IP address from the router ? (seems unlikely as you have managed to connect to it for diagnostics)
do you mean that they cannot resolve hostnames ?
do you mean that traffic they generate to a specified IP addres does not get past the router ?
or something else ?

All I know is that I cannot connect to the internet. The DSL light is lit permanently and the light next to it is illuminated but flickering now and again (which s normal). do you mean that they cannot resolve hostnames ?

The diagnostic on the Mac says 'AirPort is connected to BTVOYAGER2100-F5 and has the IP address XXX.XXX.X.X.'
OK - open a terminal on the Mac and type in the following commands, one at a time -
ping -c 5 216.239.59.103
traceroute 216.239.59.103
nslookup www.google.com
ping -c 5 www.google.com
traceroute www.google.com
and report back the results here please.

OK - first the good news - you DO have an Internet connection, but DNS (the bit that allows the machines to convert names into numbers) isn't working.
it looks like the router might not be handing out the DNS address to your laptops. If a reboot of the router doesn't cure this, the simplest solution may be to manually set DNS servers in your laptop configurations. There have been several threads on here recommending alternative DNS servers.
