As there are some great dealson new XC90's at the moment around same price as a XC60. I have owned a XC90 before and loved it but MPG is a little poor even on the D5.

I have three kids so need to room in the back to get three car seats in, both I think will work just fine, so I am after some input from someone thatmight have driven or even better had both.

Thanks

I went from an XC90 to an XC60 last May. The XC60 is much more refined than the 90. The 60 is almost car like in its handling, I was surprised at how well it corners - you could never call it sporty, but it has a certain confidence. My main reason for getting rid of the XC90 was the running costs, its a heavy car, expect to get about 12k out of a front set of tyres and 24K from the front discs (£250 ish to replace at an independant)I was also suspecting that it had lost drive to the rear wheels (spleen goes on the rear drive shaft).I had an early D5 163hp? and it was borderline underpowered, plenty of torque for towing though. ALSO DONT GET A MANUAL, the foot operated hand brake is a pain in the ass - Works fine as an auto.
The XC60 is a D5 185hp and coupled with the lighter car is a much nicer drive, I regularly tow 1350KG with it no problem. The new 205hp D5 is a stormer. If you do go for the XC60, I can thoroughly recomend getting the active cruise control and BLIS, Fantatic for motorways.

Then again, you can get a new XC90 active for £23,000, that could sway me back.

Happy to answer any specifics if i can.
