I just bought another hard disk the other day and my largest single drive yet (1.5TB), and it got me thinking.....
That takes my storage up to 6.5TB on my two main PC's (excluding laptops), and that also means I have 4.5TB of data!!!!
I remember the days when my Amstrad 1512 had a 20MB hard disk and that was considered overkill!!
What sort of storage are others using? I'm sure there's plenty more than me.....
(ETA: More capacities added as I didn't realise people had so much storage!!)

Make sure you have some kind of RAID or mirroring going on if you dont want to lose data. Even then mr cock up can play his hand... yesterday I did my monthly backup of my work laptop to my NAS. I wasnt paying full attention so just clicked various buttons... and ended up synchronsing changes from the NAS back to the laptop. Which was handy as I'd just erased all the old data on the NAS

SO there I am staring at a blank screen on the laptop where moments before was >5 years worth of documents , reports etc.
I then very gingerly pulled out my battred old memory stick that has the weekly backup on, gently inserted into the USB slot and copied all the data back.

Cheers for the tip and same goes to all no matter how much space you have.

I actually use Mozy and currently have 2.4TB of data on their servers. (They must hate me....).
I only ever back-up my documents, photos and music. The rest can either be downloaded or ripped again.....
The only real reason I have so much storage is thanks to now using 720p HD encoded movies, ALAC encoded music and RAW file formats from my camera....

My actual documents are only about 1GB.....if that!

They're a bit cheaper now then a while ago as well, came across this picture the other day that made me laugh :

That's just got a chuckle from me too!
It's crazy how quickly things progress. It also makes me feel old when kids from today only know things in GB, 8GB-32GB iPhones, >2GB of RAM in machines, xxTB hard discs etc.

That must have taken some time. Took me about 6 days to upload 100 GB. (to be fair, I just let teh app get on with it and left the machine running.)It's not always so bad as I have an 8Mbps upload line on my cable but I'm limited to about 2-3Mbps by Mozy when they're busy which is most of the time. Works a treat though!

I tend to find that the stuff I actually *need* (documents, photos, music etc.) doesn't currently exceed about 160gb. I currently have a 320gb drive in my laptop which leaves a nice amount free for stuff I don't keep (TV shows, films) if they're worth keeping they might end up on a 500gb drive that isn't backed up.
That said I do have a 24tb SAN sat in a cupboard next to me.

400GB SATA x2 (was previously software RAID1 - but the software failed me before the disks did)
250GB SATA - used for OS/temp storage
250GB IDE - backup important files - in a removable caddy
250GB Laptop
120GB Netbook
Various old hard disks - brings my total available to just over 2TB
Thinking of putting all my files no a NAS though and just running a SSD for me desktop and netbook.
Of the files I really must keep (personal files, pictures etc) it's only about 50GB. Anything else can be downloaded, copied from dvd/cd.

I pay $50 per year for the service and it offers me unlimited backup capacity so it's ideal for what I have.
To run the service, you must use a client which runs in the background constantly backing everything up and encryption is taken care of using a key that either you can define or Mozy can offer you. I use the former and keep it backed up both in printed form and on two USB sticks in separate locations. Again people say this is a security risk but it's a pretty crap argument against it. You ultimately need to access the data and to do so with Mozy, you must supply a password and the encryption key. This for me is more than good enough!
Speed-wise since it's online it can take a while. In my case I have more than 2TB of data backed up which I know is insane although funnily enough I've removed a lot of it as I was originally backing up my movies and these took up the majority of space. You can easily choose what to backup and what not to take plus it uses an incremental system meaning only necessary data is backed up.
Since upload speeds are quite slow (especially on DSL lines), keep in mind it will take up to 2 weeks to complete your initial backup depending on how much data you have to store, but it does work and you just leave your computer running and it does the rest. I'm quite lucky here in Austria as I have an 50D/8U line which means my data speeds fast enough but Mozy will never really run at 8Mbps. More like 2Mbps most of the time.....
For value, I would give it top marks and I'm confident to say it works. Very well. I've already lost one hard disk and was able to restore my data without much pain.
To top it off, it's owned and backed by EMC which is the largest storage company in the world and one my father worked with a lot, so I trust who the data is with.
At home I have...
Desktop 1 - 750Gb system, 1.5Tb Data.
Desktop 2 - 500Gb System.
Server - 500Gb System, 8 x 1Tb (RAID 5) Data.
Mac Mini Server - 500Gb System, 500Gb Data.
Drobo - 4 x 1Tb (RAID whatever standard Drobo uses, let's call it 5 ish).
Macbook Pro 1 - 320Gb
Macbook Pro 2 - 120Gb
Sony Viao - 160Gb
External drives (desktop) - 2x500Gb, 2x500Gb, 2x250Gb, a couple of 1Tb drives.
External drives (portable) - 4 x 500Gb, several 320Gb and 200Gb.
At least 1 floppy.
So, I think I might be over 10Tb...
