Hi guys, I am picking up a G50/03 tomorrow from a local Porsche mechanic and he also has a 930 he wants to get rid of. The box from what I know is a strong box, and mabe even a better choice for the torquy ls engines but having no hydraulic clutch. I remember there was one GTR on sale once with a 4 gear box and that could only be a 930 ? The mechanic told me they should just slide on the factory assembly as they are using the same bell and engine adaptor as a G50.

The later type 4 speed with longer bellhousing, (extra rib cast in to accomodate deeper H/D pressure plates) and G50 diameter drive flanges, is the better version for Ultima builders. Needs its own flywheel when used with an LS but the adapter etc is the same.
Cableshift do a unit to cable change it, Im sure Andy will advise on hydraulic clutch conversion.
Lots of gears/upgrades and some CWP's available too. Short, light and simple really IMHO.

converting the 930 to hydraulic was faily easy, I used a slave from a land rover on the box and modded the mechanism on the box.
My 930 bolted straight up to the G50 adapter, all the flywheel etc I got from Kenedy engineering, clutch and starter was simply a Porsche unit that was very strong and pretty cheap.

The ratios are not perfect but there was quite a range of changes that can be made, mine was geared for 212mph @7000rpm... Id say it was absolutelly perfect up to 160mph but could have done with another gear between 160mph and 212mph to make most of long speed runs, was good for cruising though.

The Boxs are strong but and also lighter than a G50, however they are also very agricultural, I absolutelly hated the gearchange which wasnt fast and needed to be slammed in.... clutch was heavier by about 20% as well.

I had a good spare 930 which I sold for £400 so they are much cheaper than a G50 as they are not a sought after.

........................or maybe sold it too cheap Andy? $1500+ for a rebuild condition unit over in the States, seem to love them over there.

ok picked up the G50/03 (if anybody is interested in buying it, PM me), which is an (looks unopened) long version not cleaned yet, as it came out of the car. All gears can be selected. Also had a a look at his other stock, and there is a NEW 930 and one low mileage used 930 with LSD. This box has a huge crown wheel and looks impressing in the flesh. He also had another G50/03 that has a LSD installed (1800 pounds porsche price). This one has been opened and there is some screws missing to hold the LSD. I would say this is probably only of interest for somebody who wants an overhauled box anyway. I did not buy it because of this uncertainity. however if you are ready to go spend around 4500 pounds you will get an overhauled G50/03 with a LSD installed and the option of custom gears while being at it.
He has a Porsche gear box specialist that would offer the overhauling for that price. The box is already on ebay (that is how I got aware of this guy) so if you want this one, let me know inbetween the next 4 days before the auction ends.
