I was told (over the phone) by a reputable body shop that in order to respray (Grigio Silverstone) and repair my front bumper on an f430 it would also be necessary to respray the wings and hood in order to get the color to match???

I was very surprised that respraying the wings and hood would be necessary as part of this job, but I am certainly not an expert. Any opinions?

Doesn't sound unreasonable.

Silver colours are notoriously difficult to match. You may get away with it, or it may end up looking an entirely different shade when complete.

Only way is to suck it and see, but you'd have to accept the risk on your shoulders rather than the dealer / bodyshop.

If you want a second opinion, have a word with Al at Alsa Automotive (he's a member on here) however blending in paintwork is fairly normal

Get the company to do a spray out of the colour, then you would be able to see if it's going to match.
A spray out is a test card that they paint before applying the colour to the car. They should have suggested this to you.

thanks for all the helpful responses. The color, FYI, is sort of a charcoal grey color..not sure if that makes a difference.

Normally they would 'blend in' the colour on the bonnet and front wings so that the new paint did not look too obvious. Ultimately its up to you- depends on how old the car is and the potential for fading on the original paint

again i'm no pro, but my first thought is, but then the wings and doors won't perfectly match? one of my cars is having the roof and rear bumper done and there was no mention of doing other panels to match spin
