Manual steering rack rebuild - Recommendations?
Discussion
The rack on the TVR has a lot of play and needs rebuildimg / refurbishing. Does anybody have any recommendations on where to get it rebuilt, as my local TVR dealer are quoting £300 + VAT which seems an awful lot for basically a slightly modified Rover rack.
I have checked the cheaper solutions on the car (ball joints / track rod ends) but the play is definately coming from the rack, which is a pain. Its not bad enough for an MOT failure but is starting to cause some steering wheel wobble at speed, so i want to get it sorted by Le Mans.
Thanks in advance,
Lewis

The actual rack is the problem. As you take up the slack at the wheel and keep moving it, you can see that the movement is going into the rack but not coming out.
The track rod ends are fine as these are the first thing i checked. On full lock there are no whining noises.
The only problem it is really causing is the wheel wobble at speed, as well as making the steering feel horrible and loose whilst driving down bad surfaced roads and takes away all of my confidence in the car.
The rack is a TVR own, but i believe is originated from a Rover rack, with just different mounts etc. I'm sure the breakers on here would charge a fortune for a second hand one.
