I've just bought an '03 Mazda 6 Sport which came with factory xenons as standard. I'm happy with the car but to be honest thought the dipped beam xenons would be better.

Having had a look it seems that the bulbs they are of a D2S 4300K type, it looks like I can upgrade to some D2S 6000k ones. Has anyone tried this and could give advice as to whether they would be any better?

I've read the higher the K rating the more bluey the lights will become - I don't want to look to barry boy but would prefer the dipped beams to be better.

Check your electric leveling system - I have the same HIDs on my 6 MPS and they are very good on dipped beam so maybe yours have a problem that needs sorting?

Up to about 6000k there's not much in it. Your dip beam could be less impressive due to the beam pattern. They should be self adjusting and on my Volvo, the dip beam definitely ends closer than it would with non HID bulbs. Chuff all you can do about it though.

Thanks, maybe I'm just not just to the more natural light colour of HIDs at the moment. It could be just the way they are!

Sorry to revive this thread but the issue seems to be back. The headlights seem to improve after the original query so I didn't get the levelling checked.

I had a chance today to see how high the n/s headlight beam was and it sure isn't right so I'm thinking the self levelling system is knackered. Was wondering if anyone knows of a way to manually adjust the beam or is this a case of needing a new ballast unit?

These seem to be in the region of £150 from a 'stealer' so if I can fix it another way or source one for cheaper I'd much appreciate it in the run up to Christmas. All the ones on Ebay seem to be dodgy 'HID Hong Kong special' upgrade kits. rolleyes

Thanks
