I help run a small service company whose staff go in to various corporate/public sector buildings. We are increasingly having to get staff vetted for access to places, including obvious ones like army bases, but more often just IT companies and banks. For example, a random engineering frim has just requested the passport numbvers and dates/places of birth of everyone I may send to them.

Some of my staff (like me) just see this as a hazard of the job, and that the client can call the tune as far as is reasonable.

One or two have started to complain about giving out their personal details, and this morning I had someone say they would rather not visit an MOD site if it involved filling out one of their huge CTC forms. Especially when I suggested that it would be wise to photocopy said form and keep a copy in their personnel file, as it can be used to shortcut the vetting process in future (I am told).

I'm afraid I generally see complaints like this as "can't someone else do it?" sysndrome; I'm pretty sure they'd fill out any form you like if there was more money in it.

The thing is, I'm only passing on the requirements of my clients; what staff information do I have the right to refuse to divulge in this situation?
