360 or 911 turbo?????
Discussion
No it won't
I had a 996 turbo for 4-5 yrs and used it daily. It was an awesome car and covered ground incredibly quickly, but it felt too good, no real noise and no soul ... It just wasn't an event to drive.
I put 55k miles on the car and loved owning it, but it always felt like there was something missing.
The 360 is an altogether different animal. The feeling you get when you turn the key, the looks, smiles and waves you get from kids makes you know you are in a car that everyone loves. Yes it is not 4wd and needs a bit more respect in the wet, but it's not slow and is a much more engaging drive.
Both are quick cars. The turbo punches you in the back, the 360 feels sharper and more responsive being a normally aspirated, highly tuned engine. The Turbo is a bit quicker off the mark to around 90 ish, then the Ferrari claws it back to about 135, then the Porker pulls away a little again ... But it's not noticeable driving.
If you have an everyday car, get the ferrari, but understand it's more suited to a weekend thrill.
If you want an awesome car that can be used everyday without a second thought go for the Porsche.

Combared to a 996 Turbo, the 360 will feel slow - very slow!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-1U2xU7wa0Seems quite close to me on straight line performance in that video.
Also, a quick google came up with:
360: 0-100 in 7.8 and standing quarter in 12.3s
996TT: 0-100 in 9.2 and standing quarter in 12.4s
I've owned both...previously the 996 turbo S (for a year) and chose it exactly for the same reason that i would need that little bit more power + thought it was the sensible choice given possible risks and service costs of the fezza.
The turbo was fun but didn't have that sense of occasion when you drove it (+ sounds a bit better than a hairdryer).
I traded it in for a slightly older 360 with a tubi over a year ago and it has been one of my best decisions ever. Porsche ownership doesnt even come near! The fezza is a superb car that gives me goosebumps everytime i fire it up. It can be used daily and is awesome on tour (did a 3000 miler in europe last summer).
Make sure you try both cars and you will see what i mean.

Can people please stop perpetuating the myth that the 996 Turbo is much quicker than the 360 Modena; the 993 Turbo is much quicker than the F355. The 997 Turbo is much quicker than F430. Your gran is quicker than Usain Bolt.
The Porkers have good traction due to the 4 wheel drive system and the turbos ensure they offer flexibility lower down in the rev range. Mid-range grunt.
But, driving those Ferraris requires a different driving style. They need revs. Lots of them. Smooth gear changes too. Rev the nuts of your Ferrari, then re-appraise if the equivalent Porker turbo feels quicker.

Yeah those figure are a tad optimistic !
As said, they are both fantastic cars and depending on the car you are coming from, both are likely to put a smile on your face
.... But the Ferrari is an EXPERIENCE to own and drive.
The 996 is a very fast car, but not an "event" everytime you open the garage door.

If i had the choice (i dont) i would go for the 360 every time. While the porsche is a great car, i see that many around stratford and leamington that i dont look twice, but a ferrari is a different matter.
Plus when i get a call to detail either one, i look forward to the 360 much more.
If you do get the 360, try and get one with the challange stradale exhaust on it. I detailed a spider with one on and it was just insane. You could hear it from miles away.

the turbo is a GT, you aren't comparing like for like here IMO
Turbo vs. 550, maybe
GT3 vs. 360, more like
So what should the 360CS be compared against? Turbo vs. 550, maybe
GT3 vs. 360, more like

Seriously though, that's a very good point. The raison d'etre of the two cars is very different, as is the market's attitude to mileage and the service costs etc. The 996TT is the sort of car one could use everyday without getting scared about depreciation or running costs, whereas the 360 is less so.
the tt is an all round continent crusher that drives itself and corvers ground whatever the weather
it's heavy, blown, with a stubby power band and is foolproof 4wd with very supple and forgiving suspension
its the arguably the softest car porsche make, something like a cayman is a lot more focused & tool like
it's nothing like a 360 and to bemoan its lack of exhaust note, its sense of occasion, it's lack of revs, its unscalpel-like nature etc.. is therefore just a little bit unfair
as for the stradale, you'd compare that directly to a GT3RS IMO, much like Top Gear and the magazines did

I am amzed you thinkn the turbo is more thrilling and involving than the 360! I think the noise and the fact that the 360 is rear wheel drive means it much more exciting (but we all like different stuff)
I would also say that the turbo does feel quicker because it's turbo charged delivery gives you much more torque and therefore low down grunt. You need to work the 360 more.

The Ferrari wins hands down for sense of occasion and presence. Its one of those cars that puts a smile on your face from just popping down to the shops. Granted running, servicing and maintenenece costs are probably double what you pay for the Porsche and the Turbo is almost F430 quick never mind 360 quick. A standard 350bhp 997S would give a 360 a run for its money performance wise.
If it was my money? The F360 would win hands down. Porsche is a great "everyday" car but can leave you feeling a bit cold/bored if i am being honest. You just have to scratch the Ferrari itch or you will regret it when you see one this summer at the lights when your in your Turbo. I also cant see you loseing money on a 360 so maybe drive one for the summer then jump into an X50 996 Turbo.
P.S. I know some do it but i cant imagine driving an F360 daily wheras the Porsche is as viable as a higher powered BMW coupe for everyday use.
