E90 Wing mirror problems...

Last week some idiot on the other side of the road going too fast hit my wing mirror with his (or hers) and destroyed the case and mirror.
I have bought the glass and the black (un-colour coded part) from BMW. Fitting was nice and easy but now the mirror seems to be pointing down too much and the adjustment won't go up enough.
Am I missing something or is it possible that the force of the collision has bent the metal frame inside the mirror? Adjustment motor seems fine so I'm a bit lost as to what's going on!
I apreciate it's hard to tell over t'internet but I wondered if anyone else has had similar issues?
