Looks like Ive a problem with my Sky box. It works ok for a few mins but the picture and sound starts skipping worse and worse until you cant see anything then it says No Satelite Signal Being Received.
All the cables etc are in tight and if you turn the box off for a while and leave it, it then works again for a little while.

Just called Sky and they said I can pay £65 for an engineer to check it out or upgrade to Sky+HD and get a free box and pay an extra £10 a month.

Buuuuut what Im wondering is can I buy a box on ebay and stick in my card and use it?

Hi,

It sound to me like your dish is slightly out of alignment.

You could try a satellite Finder for B&Q for about £15 first, quite useful to have one any way.

Yes, but watch out for chancers selling their broken boxes. You have to ring up sky and have your card paired with the replacement box but the process is straightforward.

The dodgy buggers move when you're not watching them y'know.

The strange thing though is the signal strength is full but the signal quality is really low and sometimes goes up to about half way where it works again.

Just went up on the roof and tried moving it around to see if the signal got any better but it made no difference. frown

A common fault of Sky digiboxes (especially Thomson boxes) is for the capacitors in the internal power supply to fail, leading to symptoms similar to yours, I had the same problem with mine. Try having a read of the satcure forums, they were very useful in helping diagnose my problem. In the end I upgraded to Sky+ HD & haven't looked back.

Yeah Ive left the box off for the last half hour and its working again. The capacitors probably cool down then work until they heat up again.
Im considering HD but not sure if its worth it.

Well bit the bullet and ordered Sky+HD which will be installed on saturday. Its got to be worth the extra £10 a month just to fast forward past the bloody ads especially that annoying fkwit in the Go Compare ads!

I've got the old flux capacitor fitted in mine, they were supposed to change it with the new EPG but it didn't work
