hi guys , ive been thinking about swapping my Pug 306 for a 318Ti ? compact thing ( sorry i have no idea about beamer models let alone all the different numbers and letters they give each model ) anyway , not being a mecanic and not knowing any1 that can help me out by going to look at the car ive come here for some advise , the 318 has coverd 93k miles and apparently has the following problems ( wil just copy + paste what the guy has told me ) -

The clutch pedal is heavy. Without ever being able to rereate it in any standard way the car for no reason every now and then pops out of 3rd gear when the revs are reducing. (Sometimes happens but not all of the time). (might need a new clutch, does NOT SLIP)
The reversing bulbs do not illuminate when in reverse, must be the fuse, its done maybe 150 miles since the last MOT.
The cloth inside could do with a good clean.
The nearside fog light cover is missing.
The front door card surrounds for the inside door handles are missing.
The gas struts for the boot do not always hold.
Could do with a T-Cut, but does look great after a wash.

my main concern is the clutch problem , any1 have any idea on what this could be and what im looking at as a repair bill worste case scenario ?

many thanks in advance for any advise,

Jim

Hi The 318ti is not a bad car but loads about so you will have the pick of a few and the right one, Ive always gone for car with good service history and if it does have stamps in the book then ring the dealers to confirm this is true. The engines can sometimes be a little tappety on start up from cold, but if it goes within a few seconds don't worry about it. I found and engine flush and good oil seems to sort it. The engines are also good for 200.000+ mileage
As for the popping out of gear, this could be a gearbox issue which isn't good, the reverse light will either be a fuse like you suggested or the switch down where the gear stick is, they normally go from time to time, or is it just the bulb ;-)
