What a day on Monday, rain, sleet, snow but at least a dry afternoon smile.

Finished off my Triple 8's by the end of the day, some interesting moments, drove home carefully, on practically 4 bald tyres!

Given the weather during this time of year, instead of ordering a set of the same, (Triple 8'S), what's the concencus of opinion in changing to R1-R's?

The R1-Rs are getting a lot of praise for Lotus drivers who have been testing them. I was very tempted to order a set until I realised my 888 rears are still near new and I'm loathed to start throwing away good rubber so have stuck with 888's for now.

Prices seem to have rocketed lately for Toyo stock so be interested to hear if you find a decent price somewhere.

Just thinking,

I prefer the wider set of wheels I use for the track, should I go for the R1-R's and run them all the time?

They are supposed to be better in the wet and not that much worse then on the track.

The road wear will be negligable and I guess I will get through about 2-3 sets a year, is that a plan?

Oh, and I can sell the other set of wheels clap, hows that for a money saving scheme missus!

LOL - I'm trying to justify another set of wheels to the Mrs at the moment! (not working!)

The feedback in the Lotus community is that R-1R's are 95% of 888's in the dry and 200%+ in the wet. Chris Randal suggests they are the no. 1 choice for combined road and track. I imagine Tivs are similar in terms of tyre/weight combination so should be a good match.

Well worth shopping around though.

Matey, be careful doing this... if the BiB catch you, they can throw the book at you for each bald tyre. Not a good idea...

best bet is to keep checking your tyre tread during the day and make sure you drive home on legal rubber...

All the best...

try www.tyretraders.co.uk

They have a few odd sizes left at "old" prices. I picked up a pair of 888s for my Exige for £160 vs. £300 odd elsewhere.
