AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHH, HELP!!! Bloody CD Drive!
Discussion
My combination CD drive/rewriter/DVD drive on my laptop will not read a CD under any circumstances. It either says "Please insert a disc into Drive Q", or the drive completely ceases to exist from the computers point of view. It's a Packard Bell I-go laptop. Don't ask me the make of the CD drive because I don't have a clue. Any help on how I can get this to work will be greatly appreciated

Best bet is to find out the make & model and then obtain the latest drivers for it from the manufacturer's website... Sorry!
These things are usually modular, so you should be able to find a catch somewhere and pop the whole thing out of the laptop, hopefully exposing the information that you need.

Just tried that and there's nothing on the Packard-Bell website. It's and NEC drive and Packard-Bell are owned by them, so if there was a driver update it would be on there. I've downloaded all the Windows XP updates relating to CD drives and it still doesn't work
