Flying with BA Anyone booked since xmas?
Discussion
Not actually booked any but they were already booked, as they were most convenient and cheapest taking all factors into account eg luggage surcharge, others not landing in airports located where their names suggested, don't want to trek to Luton or Stansted etc etc.
Taken four trips so far this year, every flight has been full.

Yes - going to Phoenix this weekend for 4 nights.
Why? Was in the sale, and more importantly direct flights which I couldn't find elsewhere.
I didn't know about the strikes when I booked, but I seem to be coming home earlier than they can legally strike anyway.
P.S. I lost my bag for 5 weeks in the T5 opening, too....

No. We booked ours well before. There's 11 of us flying to Rio with BA on 10th April (so one week after the Easter weekend they've promised won't be affected) to a close friends wedding.
Included in the party are the grooms parents, brother and sister, as well as the best man. We actually payed more so that we could all travel together. It's been a year in the planning (and saving), and they're so excited (as we all are) that we're all going to be there together.
We've booked all accomodation and internal flights/transfers.
It will be truley heartbreaking if we all miss it.
Does anyone know when it's likely to be known when the strike dates are and which flight are affected?

I've got one flight booked on BA next month from LGW to Turin. I booked because they are the only operator who fly that route. I've got a couple of other flights booked with Transavia to Holland but again they're the sole operator on the route.
I've booked a couple of long haul flights too, but have booked with Beardy Airways. One is to Joburg (work) and one to Barbados (for a week watching Twenty/20 cricket
) I wouldn't risk BA for the lon haul important stuff, but I don't mind about missing Turin as it's only an end of term skiing weekend.

Why is it BA seem to get priority for certain routes?
I have yet to be impressed with their service when I have travelled with them, compared to other carriers.
Is it because they have to cover the arse-end airports as well in return?
Certain number of take off / landing slots available from Heathrow and BA by dint of being there longest have lots of them. I have yet to be impressed with their service when I have travelled with them, compared to other carriers.

Also only a UK based carrier can operate services from the UK to any country whereas other flag carriers can only fly directly to / from their motherlands. The last bit is not as true as it once was with EU rules and flights that stop en route from elsewhere but explains why you can't fly say Qantas to Paris from Heathrow.
I fly BA loads and find the service to be rather good
Ben
Indeed, I fly with BA quite a lot and always find the in-air service to be excellent. The ground service is generally good, most of the problems (eg. security at T5) are down to BAA rather than BA. However things like bussing of F passengers to remote stands really does need to be sorted out.
Yes.
One next week to go and visit my Granddad before he dies.
One in July to go back to the UK and see family.
They are the only carrier with a non-stop service to the UK from here. The only other choice is adding 5-6 hours onto the journey and fly via the US. If we had some competition on this route, I'd switch in a heartbeat.

I agree, the service is about as good as anyone alse and better than most. Have you ever travelled on American? Yeesh, it's like a flying TGI Fridays. My ex-wife is LHR long haul cabin crew for BA, I despise her, but still happily fly with BA.Andy Zarse said:

Never been in a TGI but I agree that AA is not a pleasant experience. They seem to exclusively recruit bitter, middle-aged women.BA crew always seem professional, friendly and keen to help. There's nothing like stepping down the air bridge at some foreign airport and onto a BA flight and being welcomed with a smile, a British accent and a glass of champagne!
