I have just downloaded this from Mozilla, v.v quick even compared to the old Firebird. Tabbed browsing (no more multiple windows open etc.), seems stable enough. Glad it's friday surf time until work ends.

And unlike Explorer it keeps personalised URL icons (like the PH one) and doesn't lose them and replace them with an Explorer "E".

I'm still using Explorer for most things (saves having to input passwords) but run Firefox as well. Have the Nautlius theme running on it too.

got fed up with windows in its entirety a good few months back now, and now run Gentoo Linux on the laptop, with Firefox as my browser. the only thing it [Firefox] can't cope with (which I then use Internet Exploder for) is access to the company intranet (coz they insist on doing NTLM auth which firefox seems un(willing/able) to do, but full Mozilla does happily )

Looks like I'll upgrade my Firebird too then.

I heard, Ted will adapt the non-IE stylesheet for PH, innit Ted?

For everyone who wants to give the Firefox a try:

Decent installation tips: www.nidelven-it.no/articles/introduction_to_firebird

The same site features an installation tutorial for my fav free image editing application as well (which is very well explained):

I've been playing with it and I rather like it. It's shown up some slack coding of mine too.

But nothing which can't be rectified?
I always like to see older stuff that I've done - shows me sometimes that my skills have improved since

Btw. there's a JavaScript console in the #Tool menu, and AFAIK there are some extensions for debugging and analysis available at http://extensionroom.mozdev.org/ .

... Tabbed browsing...

It's worth it for that alone (and many other things besides!), especially with it set to 'open new tabs in background'. e.g. Bring up the Gassing Station, middle-click all threads of interest to get them all loading, then browse at leisure.

I'm also a recent Linux convert and only started using Firefox the other day.

I find the javascript debugger of Mozilla really good for writing code for work as it actually points to the mistakes which IE doesn't.

Must admit, not tried Firefox yet although having read this thread I will give it a go. I use Opera 7.2 for my tabbed browsing. Any comments on how Firefox compares with Opera?

I'm running it too now and I like it.
Couple of questions for the more established users though.
1. Does it hide the infrequently visited url's in the Favourites folder after a time?
2. Does it tell you when there are new updates?

TIA

You can set the time in days, how long the history is stored:
open the options window with #Tools #Options... and the go to #Privacy #History .

There used to be one in the full Mozilla websuite, but I think it's one of the features that had been sacked to make a leaner browser. Maybe it's available as an extension?

I think so.
Go to www.hallvord.com/opera/adr2html.htm and convert your bookmarks to html. Store them on your disk, and open Firefox.
Open #Bookmarks #Manage Bookmarks... and then go to #File #File Import... and select that previously converted file.
