17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC OS Macro HSM Lens
I would like to upgrade my 18-55 Canon kit lens and have been looking at this one.Price has dropped over the last week and stands at just over £300,reviews i have read all seem to say its nice and sharp and that is my biggest bug with kit lens sharpness is poor. I already have the Sigma 10-20 and the Cannon 70-300 so looking to fill the middle so is this a good option or is there another you would suggest for a walk-around lens

I havnt, and I've not seen any pics from the OS version, but the older non OS one was very sharp. mki's had focus issues that were fixed later I think (well as fixed as sigma gets for focus).


Its a decent lens if you dont mind variable aperture.

I was considering the same lens for my Sony, but ended up going for the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8
28mm isn't very wide, but I also have an UWA (11-18mm) so it's not a big deal.

Image quality is fantastic though. At f/2.8 it's at least as sharp as my kit lens was at f/8. At f/3.5 it's almost perfect and by f/4 it's as sharp as it's gonna get (very!)

Contrast and colours are also fantastic - so overall image quality is a massive improvement from any kit lens.

Thanks guys ,just had a look at some reviews on the Tamron 28-75mm never really considered that one as i think i still want a little more width but not a bad lens. Might up my budget as the Cannon 17-55mm F2.8 caught my eye, would be nice, but at that price!. Will wade through some more reviews before any purchase .

How about the Tamron 17-50? Supposed to be a cracking little lens for about £300.
