No-one else seems to have mentioned it so thought I would... Only last week I was rueing the fact that this lens doesn't exist - and now it does biggrin

www.dpreview.com/news/1002/10022016sigma70mm200mm....

It's the same size as the old one so might just find its way onto Bloke's shopping list this year. At last, a real reason to buy stuff bounce

And has sigmas new equivelant of flourite elements, it looks good, mtf looks improved, hopefully a viable alt to the 1st party super expensvie versions.

The others look good very tempted with the new 8-16mm.

I paid about £350 for a mk1 70-200 2.8 (brand new)
The mk2 is about £600

I wonder what this'll cost!

Less than the Nikkor for sure - and equally importantly, it will fit in my bag!

Probably bought the mk1 when the £ was worth something...

I could see them pricing this in league with the non IS canon.

Or at least i hope so might have to hold on for a 70-200 purchase.

In NZ the sigma non OS is about 1/5th cheaper than the canon equivelant. Mind you we dont know the mkII canon price yet , I expect 30% more than the mkI.

Given Sigma's appalling quality standards I'd not touch that lens with a bargepole.

Buy 'cheap', buy twice...

S'funny, I use a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 Mk 1 for weddings and have done so successfully for years. Very happy with it - and it was s/h from eBay!

Buy from a reputable place like Warehouse Express and they'll take back anything that's not right.

Mind you the 'cream' in 4heros photos looks more like 'pub ceiling' to me!

Ah yes, those terrible Sigma lenses. Awful focus speed, terrible image quality etc etc ...

Every one of those is from a 70-200 EX DG. All are from the old 20D so i haven't even "cheated" by posting shots from the 7D or 1DMKIIN.

I won't bother throwing the 120-300 or the 500 prime into the mix either biggrin

Yep, I have the MkII version on a Sony A700 so no stabilisation gubbins needed - it's a spanking lens.

Just called WE - the current version is now out of stock but there's no sign of the OS appearing, and Sigma's website doesn't list it. Looks like it'll be a while yet.

It certainly is; I was expecting £999. But with the new Nikon at £2000+ I suppose they are still fair 'value' although I'm not biting yet.

Last time I looked on eBay (about a week ago) there weren't any for sale at all, not even from HK etc, which I found surprising.

Sigma does have a bad rep but from what I can gather their 'EX' range is quite a bit better in terms of QC. And some of their lenses are simply superb - can't find anything to better the 100mm or 150mm macros, for instance.

Still, at over a grand I'll be sticking with my 80-200mm.
