E46 Factory Nav sound issues
Discussion
The sound has been playing up for the last few days intermittently. Now there is none. It has done this since I bought the car last May.
The unit works fine - all lights on, detects CD's and TV etc. Which leads me to believe its the radio module. But the NAV sound works, which means it isnt.
Looking around the interwebs gives very limited replies and I don't really want to loose the TV/NAV to replace with a JVC unit. Around 3 months ago I pulled all the amp unit out replaced the fuses etc and it worked fine again for two months and now its tits up again. PITA
I have found this,
(1) Insert key but do not turn on ignition
(2) Turn on headlights (don't ask but it works!)
(3) Disconnect battery
(4) Remove fuses no. 7 and no. 41 from holder in glovebox
(5) Wait 5 minutes
(6) Reconnect battery & plug fuses back in
While I am at it I will replace the fuses incase they have hair line cracks in the fuses. Its incredibly annoying.
There isn't any consistency to when the radio dies. It's not when its too loud, its not when I am moving. For instance I was washing it the other day, CD Playing relatively quiet and then it just goes off. Turn the unit off and on and then it works again?
I'd really prefer to fix what I have rather than fork out a monkey for the 16:9 upgrade.

How old is the car??
If it is pre MY2003 then it is pretty much guaranteed to be your radio module.
I would buy one off ebay and see how you get on, to be honest it can't actually be anything else.
Edit: you don't mention if you have a DSP amp in your car??
