After speaking with Tim at ACT I decided to bit the bullet and fit some ACT super flare trumpets to my 4L chim. Below are a few pictures of the job. The throttle response has increased by about 20% cant wait to get it on the road for a test drive.

Also fitted thermal gasket to reduce heat transfer to the trumpet base from SC Power

Theres quite a lot of material removed from the middle four trumpets does that interfere with the air flow to those ports? or is that the angle of the photo.

I had a spare trumpet base so i cut 15mm of them and fitted the gasket too throttle does seem much more reponsive but still to road test it and get it RR again this year and can report back then i may go down this route too i will see how you get on please do report back when you do your road test.

Cheers Scotty

Much of that is for clearance for the long bolts.

TBH I've always thought Tim missed a trick by not adding a stud & nut upgrade wink

I went the alloy trumpet route for this reason as i could just bend the over hang out the way and bend it back once bolted in. The carbon does look smart though.

The carbon trumpets are carbon to keep the heat from rising up into the trumpets so the air entering the engine is as close to ambient temperature as possible. They are from ACT and they have much experience with trumpets as they have spent a lot of time and money in the past testing them for touring cars, the super flare goes from 38mm to 48 mm this gives a slight forced induction effect. They were easy to fit and I recommend doing them your self.

I think you will find the tufnol plate insulates the plenum from heat. The trumpets are carbon fibre to enable an easy way to get the taper from 45mm to 38mm which would be expensive in alloy.

I have gone down the route of 45mm alloy trumpets and opening up the trumpet base and inlet manifold to suit(and insulating plate). Will post results.

It also gets round the dowels being too short when you use those insulators wink

Hi, I was just looking at your posts and notice some sort of bracket attached the plenum base in the second photo, my chim does not have this. Do you know what it's for?
