As above - its very speculative but if one were to be commuting this route daily, whats it like? Garforth to Howden?

Its further than I've had to commute before (not a fan of big commutes!) but both my start and end point are close to the motorway junctions so it theoretically shouldnt be much longer than just driving into Leeds

Is the A1M (the new bypass bit) and the M62 usually ok traffic wise at rush hour times?

This probably won't be of massive relevance to you but on my commute to work I join the M62 from the M18 which is junction 34 and leave it at junction 32 which is Castleford and it is extremely easy no matter what time of day it is (even if you are half asleep like I am in the morning), it is not very busy - although once you get the other side of junction 32 (towards Leeds which wont affect you) it starts to slow down and stack up.

So your commute along the M62 will be a very easy!

That bit of M62 is always empty - certainly no problem in that direction at that time.

The bridge at the Howden junction sometimes has the BiB spotting on the top - so careful as you come over the Ouse bridge.

No idea about the A1 before it.

In my experience you are more likely to see them just the other side of the M18; I've never seen them near the Ouse bridge. In any case, take it steady over the top and enjoy the scenery (and the Humber Bridge on a clear day).
The commute from the A1 to Howden (J37) shouldn't be a problem; it's a regular trip for me, albeit in the other direction, and it's very rare to find a delay, though it can be a bit foggy in the morning.

Cheers all - as I said its very speculative, I was jsut curious!

I regularly do the A1-M62-M18-M180 to Shorpe as my OH lives there but usually afternoon/very late at night so wasnt sure of the traffic. OT but the new re-surfaced bit of the M18 is lovely, why cant all motorways be like that...cloud9

snotrag, i used to do allerton bywater to scunny everyday going thru castleford to join the m62 at j32. that was the most congested part of the journey. after that you can go as fast as you like, esp. after the m18 turnoff. police (if you see them) seem to have a nice attitude on that stretch, I've been overtaken a few times by them whilst cruising at 100 without any bother.

if I were you I'd start from garforth cliff and use the old a1 dual carraigeway to the m62 at the services

I'd go down the A63, straight road right into Howden.

From Garforth A63 > Selby Fork, then down A1M, then along M62.

Getting out of Garforth will be the hardest bit until you leave the M62 at Howden.

Lovely commute route imo!

I do that route 3 times a week ish anyway as I said - on my way to see the missus.

I was just wondering as to the traffic at peak times.

As much as I moan about where I live - I have the M1, A1 and A64 all withing reach in a matter of about a minute. Pretty useful.

Yeah it'll just be Garforth at peak times. Once you hit the A63 proper up Garforth Cliff, it's all flowing nicely to Selby Fork, motorway is quiet down there, maybe a touch of queue (minute tops) to get east bound onto the M62, and then that is it.

As said, I've gone to work that way a few times over the years for whatever reason, and it really is just that last set of lights out of Garforth, the junction down to Kippax, and those new lights near the Total garage, that make it not so good at rush hour.
