Hi all. My 1999 Daimler long wheel base has just blown a fuse and now has me confused. Left rear heelboard fuse no 4 just keeps on blowing. I got in the car to go out and she would just not start. The stearing column also did not reposition. I replaced the 5amp fuse and she started right away. Got in this morning and the same had happened again. My book says it is the fuse for the Diagnostics connector. Whats up? maybe Tame tech Paul can point me in the right direction.

Regards

That 5 amp fuse (according to the jaguar factory wiring diagram) only feeds the data link connector (diag socket)

Are you sure its fuse 4, and by left hand you do mean left hand from the drivers seat, Near side dont you?.

You havnt had some muppet fitter splice into that wire to power a sat nav or speed detector or anything.

I cant see how that fuse would cause fail to start or steering colimn entry/exit problems.

Hi Paul, thanks for getting back to me on the subject. First of all I was reading the possition wrong. It is in fact fuse 6. "The Centre console switchpack. reader exciter ECM." My car is a RH drive and the panel is on the left hand side. When I got in this morning the battery had gone flat

Fuse 6 LH heel board feeds:-

The back lights for the center consol switch pack, where the hazard light switch, trac off is.

IS the battery + feed for the time clock

It also feed somthing on page 13.3 and 13.4 of the diagram, which are deliberatly missing due to everything being security related. Thankfully the clue is in the handbook you have, When the handbook says exciter its refering to the coil that picks up the transponder in the igntion key. Explains why it doesnt start and doesn do the steering column actions, as these depend on it reading the key.

You need to find out if its the clock, the switch pack back lighting, or the key reader/exciter thats causing the short that blows the fuse. Disconnect the clock and the harzard light switc etc and try it with a new fuse. If it still blows it the exciter at fault.

With that fuse blown, the car might not shut down all its network modules and drain the battery, otherwise thats a separate electrical fault.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you all. I went away for 2 weeks, upon my return I charged up the battery again and connected it - well now the fuse does not blow..and all seems well again.....go figger?

Thanks for the responce as I now know what circuit to look at if it raises its nasty head again.
