I need some new luggage

For more than 20 years I've been carting round the world 2 trusty Samsonite hard shell cases. They are a bit careworn, but still perfectly serviceable. However, SWMBO has decreed that we need new luggage.
Although I would normally shun this expense, I'm not as young as I used to be, and the thought of pulling wheeled cases along, rather than lifting and carrying them everywhere is appealing.

Based on my previous experience, I'm inclined to stick with Samsonite hard shell cases and the Aeris range would seem to fit the bill. They are clasp rather than zip fastening and are relatively light.

Has anyone any other recommendations or know where I can get Samsonite at best price.?

I was looking for hard cases but they all seemed too heavey so I went with these. The one thing that I would not compromise on is having 4 independant wheels. I'm tall and all other suitcases that roll on 2 wheels at an angle hurt as they are too low. These can stay with all wheels on the ground. Much easier to move as well as you don't have to support the weight.

I've got a quote off a local supplier that's as good as anything I could find on the internet, so have placed an order for a couple of Samsonite Aeris cases.

Interestingly, although they are hard shell cases they are actually lighter than the one you mention.
5.07kg as opposed to 6.45kg.

I bought some tripp luggage from debenhams (or was it BHS cant recall). Its very sturdy, reasonably priced and (most important) its about half the weight of a normal case so you can take more stuff with you.

As frequent traveller, I have given up on buying expensive luggage. Certainly in the Middle East they take a great delight in using a "Barns Wallace" technique of unloading the plane and seeing what drops out of the said shattered case on the runway.

I have had four decent hard shell cases destroyed last year alone, insurance sort of covers the losses but not the hassle.

I now buy soft Egyptian / Chinese soft copies, I think my current one is Dunlup and just replace them when they look shabby. Not had any problems since, with breakage.

A tip given to me by an experienced expat.
