TVR Breakdown Recovery

My AA breakdown cover is up for renewal and the AA are wanting to charge me £149 to renew (Roadside + Relay + Home Start) so I am looking at various other options.

How many of you use AA/RAC? and how many decide to go with the breakdown options provided by insurance broker?

I am insured through APlan who only want £75 for UK & Europe cover (Roadside + Relay + Home Start) and take the car to a TVR specialist of choice.

When I called the AA they said they would reduce the premium to £100 (UK cover only) or for £150 include their breakdown repair cover which pays out up to £500 for repairs following a breakdown (less £25 excess). This also applies to both my cars (TVR and Ford Puma) wheras the breakdown cover through the insurer will only be for the TVR.

I will also be taking the car over to Belgium this year and realised that the AA charge around £40 for single trip European cover, which soon adds up...

Not really sure what to do.

Look very closely at the conditions applied to free / cheap cover. For example many of the bank account freebies only give 10 miles recovery.

My vote always goes to Britannia Rescue.

That AA breakdown warranty is excellent.

I always find at the end of the year, it's cheaper to go on line & re apply as a new customer. Bit like car insurance

They wanted to charge me £164 to renew - same services as you, but for wife and myself, any car.

This was 30% more than last year.

I went to the AA website, and it came out as £121.65

Phoned them up and they matched the web price.

Actually £3 cheaper than last year !

You sure about that? I've had the warranty since they started it and have to nominate a car. 1 car per 'policy'. If you're correct then I'm certainly going to be having a with them.

I also have the unlimited (number of trips) AA Euro cover (again, policy is per car, not per person as the UK breakdown cover is). They put it up last year (and I only had 1 Euro trip planned) so when I phoned to cancel it they reduced it to just £3 more than a single trip would cost, so left it on (and booked a day trip to Le Touquet just so I could get my moneys worth )

This topic gives me a chance to post 'that' photo again. I'll stick with the AA if just for the colour coordination

You'll recoup the cost of the AA in a single call out - it's good VFM, been with them 20+ yrs.

Sorry should have added that there is a £45 upgrade to the warranty so that it covers up to 3 cars. (~£200 all in breakdown cover for my 2 cars + repair warranty up to £500). Cant find any specific T&C's on the breakdown repair cover though...

If you are not happy with the AA renewal quote,ring them and ask them to reduce the quote.
You will be surprised at the outcome if you have low claims.

I have my RAC renewal this month too think i am £71 for roadside + recovery do not need home start as i would try sort it my self if at home as thats where i would have the car recovered to anyway.

Euro cover is extra but i will rarly use it think i was £80 for 3 weeks cover last year and no trips planned for the coming year so i will just pay for it if and when i need it.

When I purchased breakdown cover last year I found that when being quoted as soon as the word TVR was mentioned the price increased from around £75 to £150 and this was with almost all breakdown companies, not just the AA.

I got around this by purchasing individual cover which instead of covering a particular car, covers me drving any car, this was around £75.

Same here, got personal cover for me and the mrs, so covered in any car as a passenger or driver. AA cover.
Used them twice now no issues.

Yeah i had a bank account recovery and it was only 10 miles or closest garage hence why i changed the account as i used no other of its features.

My RAC covers me in any car too even as a passenger.

Not sure if any of you get Tesco clubcard points but you can use them to get RAC cover at a quarter of the cost.

For RAC Roadside / Recovery / At Home / Onward Travel - Joint it costs me £59.50.

Yes. And you'll find the charges for anything more direct to the contractor are steep. You will also be bottom of their list.

I am with LLoyds and the AA and I have found it to be excellent. I also have the additional £500 per fix/repair cover as well which is direct with the AA. £65 per annum

I have me and my wife covered on both our cars. When I have used them there has been no distance restriction and when we call them it is through the LLoyds number so we dont or havent yet been put through to an Indian call centre. Rather than being bottom of the list I got the impression I was top of the list

The T&C's with my Halifax account state that the RAC have a 10 mile limit for relay/towing.. (Ive never even bothered using it...)

Although from May they are swapping to the AA and there will be no limit.

I'm covered a stupid number of times, I don't even know who with , so only use the AA which I pay £22 a month for. for everything, including repair thingy me bob.

I'm covered with AA - membership, Barclays, Britania, Insurance co, HSBC and one or two others, barclays, britania etc I dont even know who they use for recovery.
