About 18 months ago we laid some oak flooring in the front room and hall. Over time and two winters the hall is now begining to look a bit grubby due to the passage of feet. We've been recommended Osmo oil to treat it and having never used the stuff - or anything else for that matter I'd like to hear any experiences with wooden floor cleaners/oils that have worked?

Thanks smile

Not sure about cleaning, might be worth trying an intensive hardwood cleaner, the kind you can use on teak garden furniture. Failing that a light sand with a very fine grit paper would bring it back.

Danish oil protects oak very well.

That was quick! Thanks smile We've been told to use fine wire wool to apply the oil with which will take off the top layer of grime while at the same time feeding the wood.

We've used Danish oil on the old pine doors and floor in the bathroom. Wehn I googled Osmo there were loads of links to things like Bona and more so it was those brands I was interested in.

We have an oiled oak floor in our entrance lobby and through in to the dining room, which is heavily used

I re-oil the floor every 12 months or so with 'Osmo Polyx-Oil' (High Solid) and regularly clean it (approx once a month) with 'Parador – Holzboden Seife' which you add to a bucket of water, it adds a protective layer on top of the wax/oil

Thanks Dave - I've googled the cleaner but can't find anything, where do you get it from?

STOP...........on no account use any wire wool any near oak. Any remaining wool dust will oxidise if in contact with moisture & your oak will be covered in black specks

Unless you are using synthetic wire wool.
