Was thinking of getting the Kamei Husky from here

http://www.roofbox.co.uk/roof-boxes/roof-boxes-lon...

Any other recommendations? I assume most boxes are easy to fit on the standard fit roof bars?

How often to you intend to use it. I was going to buy one of these for my E46 330d touring, but decided cheaper to rent. A number of hire places will deliver and fit.

If you do buy you will need to buy the roof bars as well.

Hadn't thought of renting. Probably use three times a year. Will look into it, thanks.

If you need a roof box it doesn't sound like your going to be tracking the car. Sounds like your just intrested in big numbers because it sounds good down the pub or your small in the trouser department!

Or am a fan of the Engineering and the fact that they can get 272bhp while achieving emissions of 175g. Where is this Accord?

How can you stand up for the engineering when the web including this forum is littered with people having problems with the new ED petrol engines! It now sounds like your trying to justify your purchase when you know in your heart it was one big mistake! I won't even ask you about the depreciation on it!

I must be missing something. Why do I need to justify my choice of car to anyone? Why do I care about the depreciation? I fail to see how it is one big mistake - I need a roofbox for (estimate) three occasions a year. The rest of the year it is fine.

Can you suggest a suitable alternative to the BM?

I would say that you have to be a complete if you buy a big bus of car because of three trips a year.

Surely a roofbox and a car you love makes a lot more sense??

As for a Honda Accord? Hahaahahahahaahaha!!

I'm sure your a big man and you don't need to justify anything unless your an MP and putting this through on your expenses!

With regards to a suitable alternative that depends on whether it needs to have big BHP for bragging rights down the pub or if you can except that big figures do not necessarily make a car good.

To try & bring this back on topic; My wife has the 'family car' which is the biggest car she would have (Volvo V50, new shape). Even with boot lining stripped out the boot is too small for a family with two kids who holiday in UK; so last year I bought a roofbox & aero bars. I bought the Thule Atlantis 780 in Gloss Black. The great thing with this roofbox is that you lock it onto the bars with claws from inside the box & it's a single key lock, with access from either side. It's not the biggest, but a perfect size for the Volvo, which is around the same size as the BMW.

Bought it from:

I use a Thule as well, I like the 'one key' system that allows you to have one key for your box and rails.

Plus being able to open it from both sides is a bonus too.

Thule here also - it is a godsend - on the top of the 335d for summer trip down to Italy or South of France - perfect, affects the handling a bit but the torque is still there. Plus guess what - you can take it off when you get there and just put it back on for the return journey.

The alternative for me is to take the wife's car on holiday and personally I'd rather drive a Toyota than her car smile I somehow suspect Honda will be the next Japanese company to confess to dodgy build quality?

Yep I had the same on my 335d, I must say though even with that the car was just not big enough ;(

I've gone all Saab, which is big enough even if I don't have quite as much fun..

Huh? What's with the "idiots" comment?

Roofboxes are for people who need extra space a few times a year, but don't need a big car the rest of the time. Nothing idiotic about that.

Inverness (Paul) had been sniffing the sherry after a particularly poor Six Nations England performance
