Flat battery & Carsoft fault codes

I am having a bit of trouble with the wife's 2001 X5. It randomly wont start due to the battery being flat.
I have had the battery and alternator tested and both are fine. It seems to be an intermittent short draining the battery.
I have run carsoft on it and come up with the following faults. Instrument cluster: Electronic Brake and also ZKE / ZVM Earth fault
The instrument cluster fault has appeared on and off for the last year or so long before we had any starting problems. The cigarette lighter in the console doesn't work and it may be related to that. The Earth fault in the central locking is a new code though. It re appears within a few hours of being cleared. Has anyone experienced a similar fault?
Is this code likely to be a bad earth on the central locking unit and if so where is it? Or is it more likely a fault elsewhere in the system, door locks etc
