I'm hoping someone on here with some electrical knowledge might be able to help out. I want to fit a fluorescent lamp in our loft but I don't want to permanently wire it in so would like to terminate the cable with a plug which can then be plugged into an extension lead as necessary. First of all is this a safe thing to do ? Secondly, if it is safe - what ampage fuse should the plug be fitted with.

Cheers
Bob

Sounds ok to me. You need to be using a flexible lead properly anchored at the light fitting. I would cable clip it to the timbers too. The plug needs a 3 amp fuse. At the risk of stating the obvious the sides of the timbers is best then you cant tread on the cable or fall over it.

Agree, and just wanted to mention that one can buy a fluorescent tube fitting with a bayonet fitting, which then fits directly into a battenholder, giving one much more flexibility of use around the home, garage & outside.
