Does anyone have any info about whether we should expect Nikon to release an updated D700 anytime soon? Am planning on buying one shortly but would be delighted to wait another month if a updated version was to be released either reducing the price of the current D700 or possibly getting the upgraded spec of the new camera. Thanks.

I expect they'll add video and call it a D700s. No idea when though.

I think there was a video in china where they tested d700s, I might be wrong.

It's going to be called the D700cb - (crystal ball .... or is that a new kind of lens?).

if there is its a well kept secret! Loads of nonsense on the web though. I'm waiting too. I want an FX Nikon before the year end and don't know whether to wait or buy. If they just add video i'm not interested. I'd like dual slots though and more pixels (ala D3x) would be nice for landscapes and portraits. I'm not interested in a sport biased D3s type clone with a wide ISO range.

So the D3 came out in, what, early-ish 2008, launched late 2007? In time for the Olympics to be swamped with them. Followed closely by the 300. 700 seemed like an afterthought, but for a different market.

Complete guess, but because the 700 is aimed somewhat differently than the earlier ones it may not be selling in such high numbers.

So the potential demand for tinkering with a 700 doesn't seem to me to be as high as the next revision of D3 -> presumably D4 (or D5 if they get superstitious!) and D300 successor.

My bet is that we won't see any leap forward until at least this fall, probably 2011, led by D3 and D300 replacements.

So go for the 700 now (or, like me, wait for a healthier discount on a secondhand D3) on technical grounds. But, tbh I'd just wait and sit out the huge prices that we're burdoned with unless you really need a new body now.

Note that if you're moiving from DX to FX it will play havoc with your lenses (field of view). Sometimes DX is actually more suitable.

I used a D700 for a few weddings, didn't get on with it for various reasons. So rather than a question of 'yet'; I seriously considered FX but decided not to adopt it.
