news today: careers advice

The youngsters are whining because they don't get enough careers advise. Smacks a bit of leaving some-one else to arrange their future for them again. Personally I didn't get much careers advice and I didn't care, I just applied for lots of jobs and ended up in the civil service.
Why do they think that they are owed so much help? whatever happened to helping yourself?

There is not enough help out there when you need it.
To be fair I learned probably more about what careers etc are on offer to people from this forum than I ever did/could from a careers advisor.
If I was to take what I was told as gospel then I would have thought there were about 10 jobs a male could do in this world.
