oil pressure

Just got a griff 500, what a great car. Can anyone let me know what the oil pressure guage normally reads at for normal(??) use, and at tickover.

welcome to the fold, mine reads approx 30 at tickover and 30-35 on a run, although its been a while since ive had her out

Don't worry about absolute numbers, just get used to what it reads at cold idle, hot idle and hot on the move. Then, if it suddenly fluctuates from those points, look into it.

A Serpentine engine will be around 30 at tickover and 40 odd driving.

Had three different oil pressure senders fitted to my griff over a four month period(the original and 2 replacements failed in quick succesion) but at around 3000 rpm there was a 30psi difference between the various ones.As previously pointed out get used to the readings that yours gives at tickover and steady revs and if this changes get it checked but overall worry about the oil pressure warning light above all.

To put your mind at ease its best to get a pressure test done at your next service etc, I have had two done on each engine set up & both times have confirmed the actual max oil pressure to be approx 60 PSI where as two different TVR dash gauges have shown max 35 PSI at high RPM & low tick over PSI. That said I have been meaning to send off one of the TVR gauges & a new sender unit to get them calibrated to each other in hope that it should ensure correct actual reading - just another little job & more expense.
