My S1.5 is 15 yrs old now and done 42k miles, less than 20 in the last 10 yrs (thats less than 2k/yr), and according to the previous owner was never intentionally driven in the wet - I can vouch for being dry too! Is this mileage as low as it gets?

But is this really that good a thing? I manage to drive her on most dry weekends even if its only the 15 mile round trip to get the paper......but I think she deserves more road time, perhaps it is time to part company !!!?)

If it runs OK whats the problem

Just enjoy the car for what it is and "ignore" what the oddometer says

My 1.5 only had 39k on it when I sold it.. I would doubt its up to 42k yet..

I asked a similar question a few weeks back when i was considering a high mileage S3 or low mileage S1/2.

One reply said that long storage was not good for the engine, and the low mileage one he bought needed a full overhaul after a blocked oil way caused damage.

For low mileage cars remember to change the oil every 6 months anyway, even if little used ,as contamination from petrol builds up in the oil reducing its effectiveness.

A good blast also gets rid of any damp off the chassis etc, as long as it is dry.

Steve Reid at Steve Reid Classics said that S models like to be used!

But then I like using mine so that's good !

Finally avoid storing it wet in garage unless there is a good air flow as damp builds up. Leave the door open every now then. This can be a problem if you get it out, wash it and put it back. The water in all the drains creates damp. Better to wash, drive and replace than drive, wash, replace.

Don't do it....

IMHO. It depends on how many Smiles Per Mile you are getting....!!

My S3 has only got 31,000 on the clock but Since I've had it 4k has been added....

The car had been well cared for by the previous owners, so what should go wrong....I've had the car well checked over and will shortly be going to Austec for R/R assessment....Podie - Upgrade maybe...?

My S2 which I bought last August had only 26k on the clock, now up to just under 28k, but that will soon change once the sun comes out and I get

Mine has just his the 60k barrier and is running better now than it ever has done... even in winter the car gets used, and has a decent run once a week to get it up to temperature. I'd certainly agree that the more they are used, the better they get...

mines fast approaching the 100k barrier, and again has never failed to get me home in the last 5 years.

except once i took it on a track after owning for a few months and blew an oil pump.

lots of niggles, but nothing major enough to require a tow home

regards

My V8S has done 82K miles and runs great, I am told as long as they are used regularly then its OK, if the low lileage is down to long periods of being stood then thats when there are problems IMHO. If you want LOW mileage try Mr Sheens V8S it has only done 15K in 12 years........

Dont do it you will regret it big time.

low mileage cars are fine as long as they are used occasionally and serviced as per TVR recommends.
I take mine out every week or 2 to get the engine temp up to normal levels and its never let me down yet. I find alot of talk of "low mileage worries" talked about by high mileage owners on here! Its all common sense, if you leave anything standing for a long period of time, obviously you are going to get trouble.

Think i could win the trophy here.
I got my S1 last august and it had less than 16k! In the time ive had it ive done getting on for a thousand miles.
Have to confess that it has its share (or more than its share) of problems, it was stored for a long time and the paintwork does need help.
I love it though! Got the s/s exhaust done, saving the pennies for a re-spray (g/f would prefer the bathroom done). Im hoping to keep the milage down but still use it enough to keep everything moving.
Paul.

I think you need a good talking to me' lad!
We should organise a wolds run one evening soon, I'm sure that Irv and ratman will be up for a blast and a bevy
Meanwhile if the weather looks good for the day give her a run in to work with the top down, then on the way home use the minor roads for some fun
