Protesting for protesting sake...Sanctuary of the student?

Having just spotted a friend of a friend on BBC NEWS, leading a protest outside Cameron's hotel in Brighton...It made me think, who really protests nowadays?
It's just students nowadays isn't it?. This chap I happen to have a met a few times & on all occasions he's promoting another cause, or protesting for another. He's quite a fiery type that appears to be enthusiastic about any cause?! Which is all well & good but I can't help but think "Don't you have anything else you need to be doing?"
Although I admire the idea of protesting, I aim to take part in 1-2 later in the year that I really believe in...For some reason meeting people like him who just seem to be protesting anywhere and at everything, I can't help but think that these people are all just trying to find something to hold onto in there lives?
& there's my 1st analytical take on life this sunday afternoon!
Did you ever protest for the sake of protesting? Do you protest at all now? Do you just not bother? Are protesters just for work shy students?!

Best decision I ever made personally but it still bemuses me, the amount of people that live as a "student" that just piss about. I mean this guy in particularly got chucked off his degree, appears to still be jobless but still can some how find the money to go out protesting at every available opportunity.

Don't get me wrong though, the freedom in being able to protest in what you believe in is a great thing, I love the idea & if I lived another life, I gladly would where I could but not this b
ks that you see "Oh there's a protest on about so & so happening, let's go along, we may as well?!" when they have no interest whatsoever in what theyre protesting for but just like to make a bit of noise 
How about this...Do you know anyone that isn't a student that still protests?

Since the 1960s, protesting has been the student's perogative. They sometimes have to scratch around a bit to find a "cause".
1960s - ban the bomb and Vietnam
1970s - Vietnam and apartheid
1980s - Mrs T and protests against GCHQ
1990s - Poll Tax, Road Building
2000s - everything (its a pick and mix activity now)

If it was followed by BBC London News, you would have seen a protest about the proposed closure of an A&E facility. Arranged by some granny, supported by ordinary people of various ages.Why bother protesting? The government won't listen. As is Gordon Broon will look out of his window, call the troops back from Iraq and Afghanistan and leave the locals to their daily business as if nothing has ever happened ... just because some grubby looking hippies are waving banners? I doubt it very much. It's a waste of time, if these people want to do something useful, get on a plane and volunteer your time to hand out aid packages in Chile or Haiti.
Not every student protests and "tries to make a difference" It's normally people who feel they can change the world,feed Africa and give life to the dead. They tend to annoy the rest of us students too. Problem is, we have to live with them.
Student life is dull. If i wasn't working and being a student at the same time, i'd have killed myself by now. Waking up late is nice, yeah, but doing nothing all day is mind numbingly boring. No wonder students have a reputation for watching bargain hunt, it's the only thing left that you can do.
Protests seemed to be carried out by a lot of the older generation who (with respect) don't always seem to understand times have changed and there are new ways of getting heard.

Come on now, there's loads of things to do, there's pound a pint down Wetherspoons, cider in the park ... in all seriousness though, get off your arse and do something, I got bored at uni and set up the university mountain biking club with a couple of mates, within a year we were given £1000, we hired mini busses and transit vans to ride on some different trails and got some students into the national student championships.You don't have to sit about all day, smoke weed and watch Jeremy Kyle as a student.
