For an F90X, none of my digital (DX) ones will do it really.

Was looking at the uber cheap 80-200 or 24-120 D, on ebay used for around £100.

Any other suggestions? Just need focal length upwards of 100mm rather than IQ. Can be slow as you like, it'll be on Ilford Delta 3200 anyway

How about a Vivitar 70-210?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Nikon-FG-20-camera-AI-70-210...

Plus you get a free camera you can sell to get your money back smile

NB This is actually a decent lens and constant f3.5 - I still have the one I bought in 1982.

That body'd be an ace prop, but I think I'd end up selling it to cover the postage!

Perfect lens though, thanks - I'll start hunting for a more local one

Or a Nikon 70-300G - only £99 new, should be loads about. But I think the Vivitar Series One will be better. Very solid lens, about £120 in 1982 IIRC - 1.5 week's wages at the time!

I have an oldish Sigma 70-300 (4.5 to 5.6) that I don't particularly need. The only snag is that the focus is off at the tight end, so it needs manually focusing. It's fine to use AF in the 70 to 100 range though.

I'm only at the other end of the A50 (well, technically, I'm not even on the same continent right now, but could arrange something) , ie Stoke, so not too far from you if it's of interest.

I'd go with the Vivitar Series 1 suggestion.

But take your pick - Grays (expensive but will be good condition and you'll know it will work) have stuff like the old 200mm f/4 (£95) or 100-300mm f/5.6 (£225) or 300mm f/4.5 (£175) and even a 500mm f/2.8 (£245) - so those are the very top prices you would have to pay - plus Fleabay it when you've finished with it!

The second-best deal I ever made was buying a s/h lens from Grays for £200 and selling it for £220 on eBay.

(the first-best deal I ever made was selling a second-hand toilet for £50!)

Thanks chaps, need to sort this soon'ish so I'm going to do some research tonight.

Beano - you linked me to Greys MF range, just checking that I actually wanted the AF's.
