Ok need your help guys/girls.

Something is not right with my iphone/itunes.

I've connected up so I can sync. I have music on the iphone not on itunes and I want to copy across.

For some reason the iphone was not automatically syncing to the iphone (very odd). I pressed the sync button and it synced, but it took less than 60 seconds (I knew that wasn't right).

I then chose the option to manage musical manually. I got the message that the catherine's iphone wasn't linked to this itunes library (very odd).

I came out of itunes again and re-loaded it. I took the manage music manually option again and then it appeared to sync. However what it has done is NOT added the new music to the itunes library and it has decided to remove those songs in the itunes library from the iphone.

Please can someone help as I need everything in the itunes library on the laptop as I will be getting rid of the iphone.

Welcome to the world of Apple rolleyes

You are probably trying to do something Apple thinks you shouldn't so they have decreed that you can't - something reeeeally bad - similar to wanting to refresh a music library to find new files that might have been added by another piece of ripping software rolleyes

You will probably need to start searching for some piece of 3rd party software to do what you want.

I bought them on the phone from the Itunes store.

Ok a bit more info.

There are 42 songs all still on the iphone.

They are in 2 categories.

All Audio - Approx 26 Songs
Purchased - The balance and pretty much all purchased since xmas.

The stuff in the All Audio section on the phone is the stuff that does exist in the itunes library and the stuff in Purchased, is the stuff that still hasn't been copied over to the itunes library.

I certainly haven't done anything unusual.

If you bought them on the iTunes store, then it should sync automatically. Were you using the default sync previously? ie, syncs all music?

Have you tried the "transfer purchases from Ipod" in the file menu?

Exactly Blue Meanie, I started out trying to do what I always do which is simply connect the iphone to itunes and then let it sync. It wouldn't do that, so with the auto sync box checked I pressed the sync button. It did sync and then said after 60 seconds it was all done (however it hadn't copied over the music bought on the phone over to the netbook).

I've then tried to do it manually and it hasn't made any difference.

Pretty much all of it has been bought on the phone and the majority of it has copied over. However there seams to be a batch of 14 songs (most bought since mid Jan) that just will not copy over to the itunes library.

B.M I could kiss you!!!!

I've never had to do that before but it appears to be transferring them over.

Now it's interesting, it appears to be copying over a load of apps that I don't think have been copied over for maybe 8/9 months.

Might have been something screwy when you did the update, (I think it was you), as it was a fairly large one.

Yes it took 1hr 30 mins when I did it. It was only the other week from memory.

I am going back to a Nokia and my big task next is to move everything (music wise over to that phone). The good bit appears to be that I can use Double Twist. It has already got everything from Itunes on it and i'm just in the process of getting Double Twist to work with the Nokia. I think because it is currently missing an SD card, it won't work properly.

Well, you can just use your itunes folder as your library. No point in moving, or duplicating it.

That thinks iPods and iPhones are over-hyped and over-priced for what they are & that iTunes is intrusive, restrictive, un-intuitive, unstable (on a PC at least), horribly slow and generally crap?

Yep, thata be me! hehe

Thank you, so if I use it as my library, can I connect my nokia to it and move music across to it? I thought you could only use an Apple product with Itunes?

The actual folder themselves in itunes > music and so on, are just music files. You can use them wherever you want to use the files. I'm not sure what format nokia use, so be careful as you may have AAC files. You can convert them in iTunes if ou want to, or need to.
