yikes

Driving down the Motorway this morning and the X5 just cut out, no power, no engine, no control of the wheel. I competely and utterly shat myself. It felt like it had no power steering, forced the car onto the hard shoulder with great difficulty and pressed the start button and the engine came back on. It's a new X5 only 8k on the clock. Has anyone ever experienced this before?

Worrying.

Have just read about a Z4 doing the same thing.

Did your dash lights come on before you came to a stop?

Well, it's better than the throttle getting stuck open wink

BMW will be able to hook it up to the computer and tell you what caused the shutdown.

Probably.

Well that's what I was hoping for... However, you guessed it. Came up with nothing wrong?

What the fúck am I going to do now?

On the topic of Toyota cars and sticking throttles, it was suggested that to stop an auto you should turn the key one position so that the power goes off but the steering lock doesn't come on.
Surely if you tried that the car would do what yours did and would start again when asked to, plus I'd bet if you looked for the problem on a computer it wouldn't show up.
Admittedly it's a bit of a long shot but maybe there's a problem with the key/barrel

Sell it.

I couldn't run a car I didn't trust.
