What are you trying to open, an FLV video file?

If so you need the free Wimpy FLV player - http://www.wimpyplayer.com/products/wimpy_standalo... <-- open it with that.

VLC will play pretty much anything you could ever throw at it, without the need to fanny round with codec packs.
