Guy at work has a V8 Dax Rush. This was registered brand new back in 1997 but is on a Q plate.

Has anyone any idea if he can put a private plate on it and the procedure with the DVLA he will have to follow.

I take it he couldn't get a private plate that is newer than the original registration which would be a 'P' on a 97 i would imagine but i haven't got a clue.

Thanks in advance chaps.

Cheers.

It's my understanding that changing from a Q plate is not possible in the current regulations.

Once a Q, always a Q.

The only way to revoke the Q plate is to demonstrate to the DVLA that someone had omitted to submit some relevant documentation proving that either all the parts used were new or documents demonstrating sufficient parts from one donor had been used to qualify for an age related plate. Alternatively to demonstrate that DVLA had themselves not considered properly the info submitted to them.

Would you not just be able to take it for the SVA test and then register it again as a newly built car after that? Then with the reg you'r assigned, change to the private plate?

SVA/IVA test has nothing to do with it.

It is the DVLA who check the age and validity of the parts used and assign a reg to suit. Being as that chassis has already been registered it cannot be re-registered. The only way that could happen would be if it had a new chassis and documentation supporting a donor car package. All of this would be a lie and the car a ringer.
