Just thought I would offer praise and recommend where I felt due.

I've been doing up my place for the last year and over the last 4 months in particular I've been doing painting, painting and more painting!

Anyways, I've tried all the usual brands for ceiling and walls , and have ended up putting on nearly 5 coats of paint in some rooms to get the finish 'solid'.

I've just been doing my upstairs hallway this weekend and happened to be in Wickes when I decided to buy the paint. Picked out 'ivory', bought a huge tub of it. I wasn't really expecting anything , but reckoned it couldn't be worse than the 5 coats I'd just done in the bedroom with a Focus paint.

To my very pleasant surprise, the paint has been great. Lovely texture to work with and the coverage seems to be 'solid' after just two coats. I may do one more on one of the walls where there was a mix of white and orange underneath, just to be sure, but basically it seems to have covered superbly. And has dried 'flat' without leaving roller marks in it.

I also bought a tub of quick dry primer, that also seemed to be very smooth and covered solidly in one coat. Their white gloss was also ok, but does seem to be taking an age to dry, I painted a door last night and this morning, 7hrs later it was still touch wet, hopefully it'll be dry by tonight.

So hats off to Wickes, I don't know who makes their paint but the emulsion was miles better than any other brand I've used recently. Recommended.

{obviously no affiliation, but if Wickes feel like sending me a voucher for a few more tubs of paint, please PM me for contact details) :-)

That's exactly why I don't bother buying the "watered down" versions from B&Q.
I usually go to a decent decorators supplies like Brewers. Paint seems to go so much further too.

We have a very negative experience with Wickes over paint. They are currently changing all their stock so didn't have the one we needed when we went. Their staff's response was "It aint our problem mate", and seemed really rude.

I think the wickes paint rage is produced by company called Kalon.. They are part of PPG industries.

Teh wickes trade stuff is no better than stuff from B&Q. but the premium range is quite good.
