Holiday pricing - full price for a toddler?

I am trying to book a holiday for three adults and one toddler (under 2). Even though I have specified that he can travel on my lap both lastminute and expedia want to charge a full price for him - that works out like £600 a person so a grand total £2400. Surely, chargin ga full price for a toddler isn't right - or is it?

Last time we booked flights for laps I think we had to pay a charge, but not full price. Seems harsh, I would be sorely tempted to run the cheapest through their own website.

Usually it's no more than a couple of hundred quid if the little one is on your lap. We elected to pay for a dedicated seat with Virgin last year for our 20 month old and paid the same for it as we were paying for our two girls (about £700 IIRC)

From second birthday, you have to buy a seat, but it usually costs 2/3 of the adult price.

You should have to pay full price to subsidise disturbing everyone else on the flight

Thomson will let that child go free. Plus you get a luggage allowance, and pushchair and car-seat go free.

Make sure when booking a flight you specify an "infant" not "child". Infants usually travel at 10% of fare + taxes IME.
