Picked up our new SLK today and the dealer said the digital speed readout can't be changed from KPH to MPH, it this true?

The dealers can't do it without getting the STAR code from Mercedes, they don't want to do that. However Richard and Alfie at Comand.co.uk should be able to help you. They sorted my C220 hatchback and my mothers A class.

If you are refering just to the digital speed read out in the cluster. You can do it via the steering wheel menu buttons.

Use the arrow buttons on the left and scroll to 'settings' use the menu buttons to enter (look like 2 squares, also on the left)

Then choose the correct sub menu for speed think its 'cluster/instument' cant remember. And you can change from mph to kph. Dead easy.

Yes I've assumed your referring to the status bar. Which on my C only displays speed in kph for the UK market, until corrected using STAR.

I had a look at the settings option via the steering wheel buttons and only had the option for changing date & time. No other options were available. I will speak with the guys at comand.com

Thanks for all suggestions so far!

I find this irritating too, only way round it is to remove UK-Mode with STAR, but most dealers are reluctant to do this. UK-Mode basicly disables the option which lets you chose what you get in the status line. Seems to be the same on all recent Mercs. Annoying as the temperature is what you want to see, not speed in KM/H.

Thanks for the reply, does anyone know why the dealers are reluctant to remove the UK-Mode?

Hi, did you manage to get rid of your km/h display yet?

No, I spoke with the guys at comand.com and they may be able to do it. Just thinking if it is worth it to be honest. I am at the Merc Brentford opening party on Thursday and was going to speak to the guys there and try and undersatnd why they won't remove UK-Mode.
