Discussion
After a bit of a run out the weekend I've managed to to pick up a few stone chips on the bonnet. Problem is it seems to have chipped the laquer and the paint remains intact. Trouble is the laquer has lifted very slightly around the chip sort of highlighting the problem. Has anyone else had to deal with this at all, can I just stick the laquer back down?. I know it's not a permanent answer but I don't want to respray yet.

You can nib back the cleacoat at the edges a little to try and prevent further lift, but your paint is technically fecked if it has flaked like you say... chances are you will need to get it sanded back and resprayed. If just a little chip with neat edges, it could be filled and then flatted without the need for a whole panel respray.

Dom's diagnosis is almost certainly right - but on a flat colour you may be able to manage a temporary fix with some touch-in paint because your paint is a flat red.
Get some solvent-based touch-in paint, and thin it slightly with an appropriate solvent. With a fine artist's brush, carefully line the inside of the chip so that capillary action draws the paint under the lacquer edge. Leave to dry - this should hopefully bond the lacquer edge down slightly and minimise edge creep. Then filling the chip with paint and flatting back/polishing the paint should get a cosmetically acceptable result due to the colour - lots of good faqs available on how to do this.
