Well just bought this civic, bought it during the day everything was ok all paint work was spot on, but after a few days when i looked at it at nyt the driver door and wing was a pinky organe colour the day after i noticed it i paint renovated it and paint came off on the cloth while doing it and checked it later on that night and made no different:S Does anyone know anything about this or encoutered this b4?:S

The thing i find most funny is u dont see it during the day but notice it at nite?

sounds like its had some paintwork, I think its got a technical term .. metaph something i think

hhmmm any painters know? im just a panel puncher.

Hello mate,

The panels will have been resprayed at some point, the car won't have come like that from factory so this is the reason for the colour miss-match, not alot you can do apart from getting them colour matched and re done, which Im sure you won't want to do.

Do you own a a machine polisher at all?

I dont own a machine no, but i am thinking about getting it bffed with g3 compound would this help at all or be a waste off money and time?

Its a common problem with colour match of red cars and similar pigments when viewed under some street lights , this makes it look like black and white or should i say night and day tumbleweed

but look alot closer match during day light

What do i do about it? Leave it be? Get it resprayed? Get it buffed?

There won't be any difference really mate in just getting it machined, to enable it to be matched up correctly again, take it to a good bodtshop and get the panels re sprayed, thats the only way.

And no, try not to use G3 compound, especially on Honda paint, if you ever did want any machining doing, take the car to a professional detailer, as the right polish and pad combination needs to be found so you don't remove more paint than nessessary.

Would love too, but without see the car in the metal or even having a play on the panel in question which is causing your grief i can not add much .

I would use the colour cheacker 3M sun lamp i have then machine polish the panel and view again if still not right then repaint.

There lies the next problem as if its solid colour (not lacquered)and you have the panel or panels painted it will almost then not match the panels next in line without those being brought back to life with a machine cut too, this is the joys of single stage ageing reds.

Maybe be taking a few better photos in different light conditions and posting them i could guide a bit more wink

Measuring the paint depth will clear up alot too (show if its been painted before which sounds like it has) , if you get big differences then you could just go around in circles without having a large amount painting (the side of the car) to get correct match.

This is the best example of fading red paintwork

The Bonnet in this picture i have not touched yet but the wing as you can see i have masked 50/50 to show how much the paint has faded,the bonnet has been painted (in base and clear 2 stage system) where the rest of the car is still single stage solid colour.





Now this clearly shows how paint can change in colour due to UV damage,

a quick pass with compound customers feet in this photo watching me




the only problem when a paint material has dropped of this much (its dead really) you will have to keep on top with waxes and fine polish now and again to keep it looking like this UNTIL you run out of paint depth, then repaint .

Or use something like Bilt Hamber Auto-balm, which with its chemical cleaning properties, will remove oxidised paint, and leave its protection behind. Two birds, one stone. Three if you include the fillers to mask swirls.
