Fault with 2003 318i
Discussion
Hello All,
I'm looking for some advice. I traded in my beloved Z3 just before Christmas and bought a 318i and since then I have had quite a few problems with it. The main one being that every time I drive the car after around 5 minutes of driving the warning lights for the ABS and the handbrake come on then shortly after that the heater, the radio and the windscreen wipers switch off before finally the engine cuts out. The car has broken down twice with this issue, on most other days the fault doesn't go as far as that, it seems to correct itself before the engine cuts out.
The first garage I took it to ran diagnostic checks and determined that I needed a new alternator. For a couple of days after it was replaced the fault did not occur again, then it started again. The second garage I took it to also ran diagnostic checks but could not find a fault. They also checked the ignition switch and found it to be fine. They had at the same time replaced the head gasket and suggested that stripping down the engine had cleared whatever was causing the problem. However, it's still happening.
So I'm left with having paid out twice to have the car sorted but still getting the same fault and nobody being able to suggest what I should do.
If anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it.
Thanks,
J
