Website shopping cart software?

I'm thinking of setting up a simple online shop. Just looking at the vast array of cart software it's a bit mind boggling. Is there a good one ayone can reccommend?

Just something reasonably simple to set up with paypal and a credit card processor payment gateway would be great.

I think Shopify does what you want.

They got a very good reports from the web development community. Haven't used them myself though, so can't comment.

Pay Pal's own cart is easy to setup, customers do not need a Pay Pal account either so can pay via card.

Im building somehthing in Cubecart at the moment. A couple of frustrations but overall pretty easy to use and has a good array of options.

I've used Shopify and really can't fault it. If you're looking to self manage it's the best solution.

I'm not overly keen on paying per month just for the software though. I'd much rather just pay for an outright license.

I'd suggest OsCommerce for a more major store, with a few modifications. Wordpress with the eCommerce plugin for smaller applications. Drop me a PM if you require assistance

Its not about where you are now but where you want to be in a few years. I have played with just about every well know cart about over the last ten years and have finally settled on using http://www.interspire.com/shoppingcart/

The Interspire platform is like a perfect edition of magento and has a great support service.

Extremely buggy and very poor support by parent company for Interspire.

Zen Cart is supposed to be very good (considering it's free).

I have had to take on a project using zencart. It is ok ... there are some excellent looking templates out there, but haven't used any so can't vouch for easiness to use!

Actually I would say not any are that good, all have annoying bugs and gaps in features that are easy to assume should be present. Its a source of annoyance.

What do you want from the software though?

Write a clear set of requirements and be as detailed as possible, document assumptions.

The time spent will save you a fortune in time and effort at a later date when you find a feature missing.
