E65 Mid-life overhaul
Discussion
Hello all,
My E65 730d is now four years old and has covered 60k. I've toyed with the idea of trading it in but I can't afford a new F01 7-er yet and there's really nothing else about with the performance, economy and sheer luxobarge-ness of mine for the money. So I've decided to keep it for a couple more years until it's all paid off and then I've got a nice chunky deposit for a new 'un. To help me along with not getting itchy new car fingers I've decided to give it some TLC, a few smart repairs and a bit of of elbow grease so it feels like new.
I've got a smart repair planned to take care of a scratch in the driver's door and a few scuffs inside. I'm also planning on getting the alloys refurbed. Then it's inside for a some leather cleaning and nourishing, before claying outside and then a machine polish and wax. I'm not a detailing freak as the car's black and I live in the countryside so it's rare for it be sparklingly clean!
So that's the outside done but what kind of overhaul (within reason) can I do to the mechanicals to keep the beast running smoothly for the next couple of years? It's had a new oil seperator (breather) fitted recently along with a new air filter and the other consumables like brake fluid, discs, pads, particle filters etc have all been changed on schedule. I'm not an expert on oily bits but at 60k are there any other bushes, filters and fluids that I should be looking to replace with an eye on preventative maintenance?
Ta guys.

60k miles is nothing mate. if i were you and wanting to keep it running for longer....do oil changes perhaps a little more regular than normal, always drive it slowly from cold and allow the oil etc to heat up before driving hard, and after you drive it hard, allow 5mins of steady driving afterwards (or, sit leaving it idling for a while) to allow the turbo to cool down. this will help prevent turbo failure. regards suspension, bushes etc, just take it easy over the bumpy stuff. take you car to get serviced by a good independant (the good ones ARE better than dealers) and they will spot this stuff out on your inspection services. care for it well, and no reason the major mechanicals in a car like that it shouldn't do 3-4x the mileage of yours. i know bmw's with over 5 times that mileage and they are still fine as they are well cared for.
enjoy driving
