Can someone point me in the direction of some statistics on expenditure on children per year, particularly on clothing and non necessary items.
Is there a web site for such?

Alas no however I remember there was an article this week relating to the fact the raising a child to adulthood has just breached the 200k barrier. I'll leave you to do the math wink

My only expenditure on children only extends to the odd bag of bait sweets.

Those 200K figures are utter ste because they are made up by middle class wets who include things like giving up work for 5 years to wipe arses, taking them to Bali on holiday and flying business class with extra luggage allowances for the butler, having a pony (surely not every Sunday?), giving Coco Chanel party bags at birthdays and buying off unsavoury partners.

So what are you saying, £400k is closer?

The rest of us continue working part time, take cheap days out, shop at Asda, holiday in France/Spain, run a crappy 2nd car not a RR, don't send their kids on all the school skiing trips and don't buy the kids their first car with tax and insuarnce (as the £200k figure included). All I am saying is these figures are often run up by some journo living in the their Islington enclave, who is short of a story for Sunday.

These days kids clothes are very cheap, feeding them isn't breaking the bank unless you are a single parent on benefits and everything else is discretional spend and can be done inexpensively.

However cheap, or expensive, 1 is, 4 costs what I think an economist would describe as "fking loads" - even with economies of scale and hand-me-downs. Thieving little bds. And when they grow up although the nature of the hassle changes, the bills just get bigger.

God love 'em.

All sounds like a very avoidable expense, especially as you can a vasectomy on the NHS.

smile

I was kidding.

I too think £200k is crazy! I think you spend what you can afford. If you cant afford a new Mama's and Papa's pram, Osh Kosh clothes etc etc there are oftne friends/relatives that have bits to help out.

As for including a new car and insurance in the cals, thats just bonkers!
